Château de Meursault Meursault 1er Cru 2018s
Château de Meursault is a rare example in Burgundy, as it is referred to as a château rather than a domaine. Despite holding some of the most prestigious sites in Meursault, the château had an obscure reputation prior to the 2000s and was mainly known as a tourist spot. The lack of investment and expertise in vineyard and the winery, have resulted in wines that did not reach their full potential.
However, since 2012, the acquisition of Olivier Halley and appointment of Stephane Follin-Arbelet, former director of Bouchard and brother of Frank Follin-Arbelet, as the estate manager have started to turned things around. Thanks to Follin-Arbelet's extensive knowledge of top-quality Burgundy production and his experience in négoce management, Château de Meursault has re-gained long-overdue recognition since then.
With Follin-Arbelet at the helm, he has implemented several successful innovations, such as converting to organic farming, enlarging picking teams to minimise harvest times, and reducing yields and a renewed oak regime, these changes have naturally yielded in some successful vintages in the later part of 2010s. Today, we are utterly excited to present the finest duo 1er Crus in Meursault – Perrières and Les Charmes Dessus.
Les Perrières is a magnificent terraced vineyard perched atop a hill, boasting a rocky soil that produces white wines with a remarkable crispness and beautiful minerality. Our 2018 Perrières offering is exceptional, with glowing praise from Burghound and a fantastic rating of 90-93 points. This white wine is bursting with aromas of jasmine tea, fresh lemon-lime wisps, and mineral reduction. Offered in rare Magnum bottling, this a perfect addition to any Burgundy cellar.
The 2018 vintage from Les Charmes Dessus, situated slightly downslope and featuring thinner and slightly redder soil, is another fantastic offering that is sure to captivate your senses. With its slightly “spicier nose of hazelnut and an alluring blend of yellow and white orchard fruit”, this wine was awarded an impressive 93-96 points from Jasper Morris of Inside Burgundy. Burgundy wine enthusiasts can rejoice with this affordable option priced at only HK$3,350 / S$575 per case IB. Enjoy high-quality wine without the burden of a steep price tag.

Vinous (94)The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru is very harmonious on the nose. Yellow flowers, Japanese yuzu, quince and orange zest open with aeration whilst maintaining superb focus. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with a welcome bitter lemon note that upholds tension and salinity on the finish. I like where this Perrières is going - one to watch. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. |
