Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-91)
Pinot blanc, filtered but not fined, and ready to bottle. 30% new wood and 13.46% alcohol. This is the first time this wine has hit the yield since he purchased the vineyard in 2006. The palate fills out gorgeously, while there is a fine chiselled fresh finish. Both halves of the equation work. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted: November 2023.د.إ2,405.00 -

The 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is showing brilliantly, unwinding in the glass with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, honeycomb, white flowers, orange oil and wheat toast. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and muscular, with lively acids and an impressively structured, introverted profile for the vintage, concluding with a long, saline finish.د.إ7,909.00 -

(Don't Miss!) A discreet but not invisible touch of wood sets off the notably more floral-suffused aromas of citrus confit, exotic tea, anise and white peach. The gorgeously textured large-scaled flavors possess outstanding cut and minerality that contrasts with the exceptionally dry, austere and massively long finish. This strikingly pure effort is packed with potential but note well that it's not likely to be a wine that permits early accessibility. In sum, this is a classic Chevalier in the making, but patience will absolutely be required.د.إ11,490.00 -

The most youthfully reserved wine in the cellar was the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, a promising bottling that opens up to reveal scents of citrus zest, dried white flowers, green apple and pastry cream. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with racy acids and prodigious levels of searingly chalky dry extract that lend this wine incredible structure.د.إ3,245.00 -

Produced from purchased grapes, the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is serious and structured, enforcing a change of pace after the series of Puligny-Montrachet grands crus. Mingling notes of pear and citrus oil with hints of toasted bread, white flowers and praline, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and chalky, with palpable structuring dry extract and tangy balancing acids.د.إ3,640.00 -

Sweet spot Outstanding Top value Notes of smoked hazelnut, poached pear and pretty acacia blossom scents introduce sleek, intense and beautifully delineated medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate on the clean, focused, balanced and beautifully long finale. This could use a bit more depth but overall, this is a first-rate Meursault villages.د.إ2,600.00 -

1 x 350 litre barrel. Not especially deep in colour. The 2020 Montrachet has a fascinatingly complex nose, high toned, some bananas, but all the fruits pass across the nostrils. There is a touch of honey, with spring and summer flowers. Another league of intensity over and above Bâtard, yellower fruit overall, like a Bâtard x Folatières cross with yet more concentration. Oof! Tasted: 10/1/2021د.إ21,450.00 -

Boillot's emblematic 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère has turned out brilliantly, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, hazelnut, dried white flowers, citrus oil, blanched almonds and smoke. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with terrific concentration, searing levels of extract and a long, mineral finish.د.إ4,260.00 -

(Outstanding) This is perhaps the most floral-suffused nose in the range with its aromas of essence of pear and plenitude of spice and citrus elements. Once again, the mid-palate mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is absolutely gorgeous, which contrasts noticeably with the cuts-like-a-knife finish that remains ultra-refined, balanced and persistent. This is most impressive, particularly for the remarkably fine volume and power that is delivered with grace and class.د.إ5,695.00 -

Outstanding. Cool, airy and very pretty aromas of the essence of pear, exotic tea, spice and acacia blossom are trimmed in an admirably discreet touch of oak. Much like the Pucelles, the texture of the slightly bigger and more mineral-driven flavors is wonderfully refined and even more powerful on the explosively long, graceful and bone-dry finale. This is also highly recommended.د.إ5,420.00 -

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles exhibits aromas of orange oil, toasted nuts, pear and white flowers, framed by a deft touch of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with an ample core of fruit and bright girdling acids, it concludes with a precise, mouthwatering finish.د.إ5,475.00 -

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Village is superb, unfurling in the glass with aromas of white peach, clear honey, citrus oil and fresh pastry. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and textural, with lively acids and a long, precise finish. As I noted last year, it's derived from the superior lieux-dits of Les Houlières, La Rousselle, Les Charmes and Les Enseignères.د.إ4,150.00 -

Outstanding A subtle but not invisible application of wood sets off cool aromas of various flowers, pear, apple and orange peel. There is very good volume to the succulent, intense and agreeably textured flavors that culminate in a bone-dry, palate coating and lingering finale where a hint of youthful austere slowly emerges. This is a very impressive and age worthy Puligny villages.د.إ2,465.00 -

The 2018 Saint-Véran is a blend of vineyards that expanded with the acquisition of additional vines in 2016. It has a crisp, stony, surprisingly reserved bouquet with touches of gravel and flint. The very well-balanced palate offers a slightly oily/resinous texture, good definition and a long finish. Superb.د.إ1,645.00 -

The 2018 Saint-Aubin La Princée is showing well, opening in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers and crisp Anjou pear. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and precise, it's saline and incisive, Lamy observing that some two-thirds of this parcel is decidedly cool and windy.د.إ2,835.00 -

This impressive white wine from red wine specialist Charles van Canneyt at Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat dispels the myth that one can’t do both. The aromas begin with a hint of lemon peel and white flowers and then opens up to encompass quince, hazelnut, and spice. The beautiful freshness of the year balances out the impressive concentration of the wine to lead to a surprisingly long finish. 2021 is van Canneyt’s fifth vintage of this wine, whose vines were previously worked by Domaine Coche-Dury.د.إ1,355.00 -

The 2017 Viré-Clessé, which will be bottled at the beginning of 2022, has a killer nose with an almost Germanic feel, intense nectarine, melon and damp earthy scents with just a hint of petrol. The palate is beautifully balanced with a line of acidity keeping everything taut and linear. The 2017 is a little waxy in texture with orange rind, stem ginger and white pepper furnishing the very persistent finish. This is superb - a Viré-Clessé with genuine substance and longevity.د.إ1,750.00 -

(this was racked off its lees the day before my visit and was slated to be bottled before the 2011 harvest): Slightly cloudy yellow. Aromas of peach, apple, spices and crushed stone, with a hint of noble reduction. At once chewy and smooth, with a distinctly taut quality to its flavors of apricot, minerals, anise and flint. Finishes saline and powerful, with a flavor of custard pie as well as a note of grapefruit pith that tickles the taste buds. Lots of aging potential here.د.إ9,795.00 -
