Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (97-99)
Pale lemon colour. Very little nose as yet, too early perhaps for a wine of this potential power – which it certainly has on the palate, and very good acidity as well. The immense square of fruit in the mouth doesn’t yet show specific flavours but everything hangs together impressively for what will be an imposing Bâtard. Tasted: November 2021د.إ5,765.00 -

From the Puligny side of the appellation. Clear beautiful yellow colour. The nose is discreet but very classy, then this huge wealth of fruit expands across the palate. We can wait for the nose. This is beautifully poised, a little wood, a slight youthful bitterness, but both add to the grip. Long and fine. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: October 2022د.إ5,865.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)
(5 Star Wine) This has not fallen clear after a recent lees stirring. Jadot stir their Grands Crus twice after the fermentations, once each in summer and autumn. There is significant weight as you would expect, almost a monolithic block, a little citrus, both lemon and lime. Impeccable length. This requires significantly more ageing but should join its fellows on the podium. Drink from 2034-2040+. Tasted: October 2023.د.إ6,170.00 -
Wine Advocate (92-94)
Aromas of waxy citrus rind, marzipan, white flowers and warm pastry introduce the 2018 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot), a full-bodied, ample and enveloping wine that's layered, textural and lively, concluding with a nicely defined finish.د.إ13,260.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)
Mid yellow in colour. The nose hints at majesty while keeping its powder dry. This takes time to build on the palate, it is more in yellow fruit than most of the Jadot wines, with a little sucrosity, and still the lemon citrus inflection which makes these 2020 whites work so well, and the expected length. Tasted: November 2021د.إ9,290.00 -
Vinous (92)
Bright, light yellow. Deeper-pitched aromas of yellow peach and honey. In a distinctly ripe style but broad and quite dry; in fact, with its superb concentration and fullness, this premier cru made for a good transition to Jadot's grand crus in my tasting. This compellingly rich wine conveys an almost marzipan-like sweetness and should give pleasure early or late. Very long on the aftertaste. As with the Combettes, the yield here was almost 90% of normal. Incidentally, Jadot did not make a Puligny-Montrachet Le Cailleret in 2016.د.إ3,580.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93)
Slightly the deepest in colour and the richest nose of the four premier crus. Some lemon notes and light plum, then white fruit. This has the most assured texture of the four. Good grip, as Clive Coates would have said, stretching out very nicely in a fine long finish.د.إ2,600.00 -
(12x75cl) 2020Jancis Robinson (17)
Cask sample. Top-quality premier cru Puligny. Concentration and power on the nose/palate. Savoury edge, plenty of citrus keeping the palate fresh. Should age very well. Stony finish with an intriguing zesty character. GV.د.إ4,010.00 -

Savour the unequivocal French refinement of Albert Bichot Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 2017. Produced in the grandeur of Burgundy, this harmonious blend by renowned estate Albert Bichot is denser than most Chablis, granting it rich, irresistible allure. The 2017 vintage was meticulously hand-harvested, maintaining the wine's absolute integrity. Grapes were vinified in traditional oak barrels for 10 to 12 months to accentuate the naturally complex minerality.
Albert Bichot, steadfast in viticulture since 1350, ensures utter magnificence by adhering to sustainable agricultural methods, centring authenticity in every bottle. This award-winning producer has once again crafted an enchanting offering capturing a multitude of fresh and citric flavours, dominated by green apple and lemon, undercut by subtle flinty notes and a trace of salinity. The 2021 Chablis Vaucoupin 1er Cru has a primal, grapefruit and lemon thyme scented nose that feels a bit strict. The palate is well balanced with a sapid entry, though it needs more grip and substance on the finish. Fine, but early-drinking. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.د.إ834.00 -
Decanter (93)
Domaine Long-Depaquit is the Chablis arm of the Bichot family. Vaucoupin is one of their signatures and in 2022 it shows a great combination of sun-ripened peach fruit on the palate, balanced by zesty acidity and a hint of white pepper. Lovely purity here. Manages to be both powerful and elegant at the same time. Already drinking nicely, this has the concentration to age very well.د.إ883.00 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is very airy, weightless and lifted. The 35% new oak is not especially evident. The 2018 shows real finesse and aromatic intrigue. Citrus, white flowers, chalk, white orchard fruit, white pepper and mint come together in a very pretty and gracious wine with a long, persistent finish.د.إ1,455.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94)
Fullish yellow. The complex nose shows the power of the vintage, a few drier tannins behind, fair acidity. I think the Clos character is there, but it is reticent today. The palate does deliver detail and layers of fruit though. The finish does also suggest the necessary class. Really good length here.د.إ1,635.00 -

The 2021 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru has a bit of reduction on the nose, although it conveys energy and seems well defined. The palate is fresh on the entry with a keen line of acidity. There is a veneer of oak but it is proportional to the fruit, rendering the finish balanced and focused with a dab of stem ginger on the aftertaste. This has certainly improved since I tasted it blind a couple of years ago. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.د.إ1,670.00 -

(Jobard lost 40% of the crop here as both his lowest and highest vines were affected by frost; he described this as the worst frost year in this cru since 1981): Ripe yellow fruits and spices on the nose; a bit less floral than the Blagny. Sappier than the Blagny, showing good citrussy energy and a savory quality. Nicely concentrated but less refined and elegant than the Blagny. Finishes a tad spiky and phenolic, in need of time to find its ultimate harmony.د.إ2,945.00 -

The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a fresh, vivacious nose with wet limestone scents filtering through the green apple and citrus aromas. The palate is very well balanced, linear and Puligny-like, and quite strict and penetrating, leading to a citrus-fresh finish. I can just imagine this with some fresh oysters! Very fine.د.إ2,120.00 -

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a crisp, precise, gunflint-tinged bouquet that is beautifully defined and focused. The palate is very well balanced with a wonderful line of acidity. The judicious new oak (under 20%) just lends a little weight toward the finish. This is all about the tension and energy. A ridiculously good Les Referts from Domaine Bachelet-Monnot.د.إ1,910.00 -

Mid lemon yellow, with some warmth to the nose. On the palate there is a delicious depth of quality fruit with a little bit of mirabelle, but with a wave of slightly different flavours and a mineral touch to finish. Drink from 2028-2034.د.إ2,885.00 -

The 2019 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru, which comes from 85-year-old vines, has an expressive, almost Charmes-like bouquet, wild honey mixed with heather and hints of chamomile. The oak is neatly enmeshed. The palate is very well balanced, one of the most elegant and poised contributions from this Premier Cru, offering touches of orange pith and white peach mixed with hazelnut toward the finish. The kind of Meursault that makes you smile like a Cheshire cat.د.إ3,560.00 -
Vinous (94-96)
The 2022 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru comes from the oldest vines, almost 80 years old, planted by Charles Ballot's grandfather Raymond. It has the most mineralité on the nose, perhaps the most austere, but you cannot ignore the energy in this wine. The well-balanced palate has an absolute killer line of acidity, surfeit with tension, fanning out gloriously towards the finish. This stunning Meursault ranks amongst the finest in this vintage.د.إ4,965.00 -

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Village comes from eight different parcels and was racked just before harvest. Wow. This has a very seductive and aromatic bouquet with white peach, Golden Delicious, hints of marzipan and chamomile. The palate is well defined with a waxy-textured opening, lively and overtly spicy with a generous dose of lemongrass that electrifies the finish. Highly recommended.د.إ9,810.00 -

The 2018 Bourgogne Chardonnay, which had been bottled by the time of my visit, has a clean, precise apple blossom and citrus-scented bouquet that shows impressive definition for a generic white Burgundy.
