Wine Advocate (92-94)

The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Pruliers was much more backward on the nose compared to the 2014 les Roncières when I tasted it at the domaine; this is broody and a bit sulky at the moment. The palate is more expressive with fine, saturated tannin. The new oak is a little more prominent here and will need time to be absorbed, but there is plenty of fruité and density on the finish; plus there is tangible mineralité and indeed, spiciness on the finish that has more concentration than Etienne Grivot's other Nuits-Saint-Georges. Superb.

Deep mid red, and with more red fruit on the palate too, slightly more co2, quite strict for the vintage, but I like the balance and intensity, a little touch of liquorice with the red fruit.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru, which has one of the highest degrees of alcohol, also has the most tension and mineralité on the nose among Grivot’s cuvées from this commune. Black cherries, raspberry, blood orange and crushed stone soar from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip, very minerally and tensile, displaying superb delineation and transparency toward the finish. Very long aftertaste. You can really feel the terroir in this wine. Superb.

Tim Atkin MW (94)

Showing deeply ripe fruit notes, there's even a touch of dried plums here alongside the cassis, underbrush and graphite. The oak is discreet and allows the verbose aromatics to dominate the solid finish that tingles with acidic refreshment. 2023-34

Vinous (93-95)

The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a very pure and generous bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry and minerals. Laser-like focus. The palate displays fine tannins, wonderful focused with a very precise, citrus-fresh finish. Lovely balance - a stylish Nuits Saint-Georges.

Burghound (91-93)

As it should, this presently has an entirely different aromatic profile with its ripe and fresh combination of earth and sauvage characters together with both red and dark currant scents. Here too there is really lovely mouth feel to the tautly muscular flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the energetic, detailed and beautifully persistent finish. This is also admirably seamless and should amply reward extended keeping.

Burghound (90-93)

(Outstanding) Cool and airy notes of tiny wild berries are complemented by hints of the sauvage, floral, spice and warm earth. There is good volume to the nicely refined middle weight flavors that are at once succulent yet powerful, all wrapped in a lingering and balanced finale. This will need to depth with time in bottle but the underlying material appears to be present for that to occur.

5 Stars. Bright red crimson colour with very juicy red berry fruit on the nose, this has abundant energy and makes one salivate. There is its habitual garrigue touch at the back then a second helping of sweet raspberry fruit, Impeccable structure, a really interesting complex and refreshing wine. Gourmand in the best sense. The fruit just keeps coming back behind. A stunning result from a lesser known 1er Cru. Drink from 2028-2036.

Medium crimson ruby in colour. A very fine perfumed nose, with a blacker note on top of the red fruit, the touch of garrigue for which Roncières is noted, a saline touch also behind the red fruit, with some orange zest. An interesting complex wine with good length. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.

An even mid ruby colour, lovely cherry and raspberry, a few tannins behind, medium plus concentration of really attractive fruit, picked at the right time, with good length and just a little bit of the southern herbal character that Etienne Grivot associates with this vineyard. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Nov 2024.

Vinous (91-93)

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières comes across a bit moody and sullen from barrel, especially after the livelier Les Charmois. Raspberry and wild strawberry scents eventually emerge, albeit reluctantly. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Very poised and quite mineral-driven, this conveys fine energy and a satisfying sense of strictness toward the black-pepper-tinged finish. Excellent.

Vinous (90-92)

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières is initially tight on the nose, opening slowly to offer black cherries, blueberry and clementine peel. The palate is medium-bodied with a mixture of red and black fruit, and refreshingly saline in the mouth, particularly on the oyster-shell-tinged finish. Plenty of energy here, even if it’s not the best Grivot Nuits Saint-Georges this vintage.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)

A touch deeper in colour than the Vosne, but not markedly so, A darker fruit, a sighting of the traditional Nuits-St-Georges plums along with the fresher raspberry of this vintage. Fuller bodied than the Vosne-Romanée, perhaps a little less finesse, so both are true to their appellations. Well managed tannins to finish, and persistent. Drink from 2025-2031.

A little deeper in ruby colour. A pleasing mid ripeness to the fruit, this Nuits Lavières is beautifully balanced, with a fine mineral crunch following the solid and persistent raspberry fruit. Fine length. Elegant for Nuits, yet with a well defined structure. Drink from 2028-2036. Tasted: November 2023.

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)

The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières is understated on the nose, with a mixture of red and black fruit, rose petals and light blueberry scents. This is Vosne-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied and lightly spiced with finely spun tannins and a touch of cracked black pepper. This is an animated Aux Lavières that I feel might shade the previous vintage. It's very fine, very nuanced.

Burghound (96)

A gorgeously spiced and perfumed nose is intensely floral in character while offering up notes of both red and dark currant, sandalwood, exotic Asian-style tea and discreet dried rose petal nuances. The muscular yet refined big-bodied flavors exude ample minerality onto the powerful, focused and once again compact, focused and explosively long finish. This too is indisputably built-to-age and I wouldn't be surprised if it required fully 20 years before it is fully ready. In sum this Richebourg is one of the finest wines of the 2014 vintage.

Vinous - Neal Martin (96-98)

The 2023 Richebourg Grand Cru has a typical nose for this vineyard, backward and a little stern at first. Its tightly wound redcurrant, cranberry and black plum fruit notes become more open with acquaintance. Apparently, it was very open the previous day, but this is in a mood! The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure and a beguiling sense of symmetry from start to finish. This might be the most elegant Richebourg that I have encountered from Grivot at this stage. It's very poised with an extremely long aftertaste. This will require serious cellaring.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has an inviting and quite sensual bouquet of crushed ripe strawberries, cranberry, touches of cassis and violet, showing good intensity. The palate is intense on the entry. No hanging about here; just penetrating spicy black fruit with a satin-like texture and a vibrant sorbet-like finish that leaves the mouth tingling with pleasure. Superb.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has an exquisitely-delineated bouquet with black plum and raspberry fruit that unfold with each swirl of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly flinty opening, compact, quite peppery with a deepening and rather grippy finish. There is something sultry about this Aux Brûlées, a Premier Cru that will repay 4-5 years in the cellar.

Vinous - Neal Martin (95-97)

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru is a little taciturn at first, but it only takes a little aeration to reveal brambly red fruit, briar, black pepper and light graphite scents. This is quite complex and, like Grivot's other 2023s, very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasing crunchy texture on the entry. One of the more peppery Vosne-Romanées, again, you could be deceived into thinking there were stems in blend when there are none. It sashays toward a very harmonious finish. This is superb.

Decanter (95)

Always one of Etienne and Mathilde Grivot's stand-out Premier Cru reds, this is not the most immediate of their cuvées at a young age, often displaying some grip and tannic backbone as well as a hint of meaty reduction, but the fruit concentration and depth is remarkable here, supported by chalky minerality and scented 30% new wood. Wonderfully patrician and well-structured.

Vinous (92-94)

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges 1er Cru has "grown up a lot over the last 10 years," according to Etienne Grivot. It is one of the more reticent cuvées on the nose this year, reluctantly unfolding to reveal more tertiary red berry fruit laced with garrigue and iodine. Good complexity, but these aromatics will need time to open. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe tannins. Quite compact at the moment, this has good grip and a saline, marine-influenced finish that fans out beautifully. A succinct, understated Les Rouge that will give 20-plus years of pleasure.

Decanter (95)

Always one of my favourite Vosne premiers crus from Mathilde and Etienne Grivot, this textured, stylish, deftly oaked red has all the most appealing features of the 2017 vintage, with lots of sumptuous, summer-pudding fruit, filigree tannins and a foundation of acidity. It's deceptively forward, as this has the minerality and focus to age.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru perhaps has the most mineral-driven bouquet of Grivot’s Premier Crus: graphite-infused red fruit, touches of forest floor, very precise and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-sculpted tannins. There is unerring symmetry here and whilst it may miss a bit of substance on the finish, this may well be addressed by the time it finishes its élevage. Superb.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)

Clear bright ruby purple. The nose flickers in and out, and while there is a fine tensile line of red berry fruit, this is not too demonstrative. Perhaps some of the refined detail of an Echezeaux. A slight sucrosity of strawberry fruit, and very persistent. Very good and extremely typical of Suchots this year. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.

Vinous - Neal Martin (94-96)

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a lifted, perfumed, quite floral bouquet that is more flirtatious than the Les Beaux Monts. The red berry fruit comes out and hugs the senses. Its palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and fine acidity, conveying a sense of symmetry. It's not a powerful Les Suchots and it just tapers in a little toward the finish. This is very controlled and perhaps more linear than presupposed. This should be intriguing to observe maturing in bottle.

Vinous (89-91)

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Village has a very pretty nose with brambly red fruit briary and light sous-bois aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red fruit, fine backbone, quite tannic with a touch of white pepper on the finish. A lovely Vosne-Romanée.

Not so deep in colour, but quite elegant on the nose. A lighter red fruit profile. Beautifully generous through the middle, perfumed strawberry and raspberry, with a structure built more on acidity than tannin. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: November 2023.

More of a garnet to crimson colour. The fruit is not immediately so flamboyant. A strawberry or two perhaps. The village Vosne is on the softer side but none the less very agreeable and the fruit builds to the back. Now more alpine strawberry, this is growing in the glass. Drink from 2028-2034.
