The 2016 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione Brovia is explosive and exuberant from the very first taste. There is a rush of sweet red plum, red cherry, mint, blood orange, cinnamon and wild flowers in this rich, heady Barolo that captures the essence of this Castiglione Falletto site. Plush fruit and silky tannins suggest the 2016 will drink well with just a few years in bottle. The 2016 is so alluring, even in the early going; it is not austere at all. The 2016 is fabulous - that’s pretty much all there is to it.د.إ3,045.00 -

The 2018 Brovia Rocche di Castiglione dazzles with its fragrance of forest berry, purple flower, new leather and baking spice. Precise and elegantly structured, the delicious palate delivers succulent red cherry, spiced cranberry, cinnamon and star anise before a savory, almost salty close. Firm, refined tannins provide support while bright acidity keeps it energized and beautifully balanced. Absolutely delicious. Drink 2026–2038.د.إ2,305.00 -

The 2008 Barolo Villero is impeccable and harmonious from the very first taste. Layers of exotic spices and dark fruit caress the palate, eliminating virtually any sensation of tannin. The 2008 is an unusually fleshy, expressive Villero loaded with class and personality. Dark plums, menthol and a host of balsamic aromas and flavors wrap around the finish. The Villero is a bit rounder and fleshier than the Rocche today, but it is just as gorgeous. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038.د.إ2,700.00 -

The 2011 Barolo Villero exhibits a full body and thick concentration. Ultimately, this is one of my favorite wines from Brovia in this vintage. I love the muscle and heft that the wine shows, and the fact it delivers that power with the utmost elegance. Nothing is heavy or overdone here. You really get a sense of the quality of fruit achieved in the Villero vineyard. The wine shows integrated tannins and impeccable dark fruit balance.د.إ2,015.00 -

As always, the 2012 Barolo Villero is a bit more pointed and focused than the Rocche, with veins of tannin and acidity that give the wine much of its shape. Beautifully delineated throughout, the Villero is laced with deep layers of spice, dried flowers, mint and licorice. This is one of the more inward, introspective wine of the vintage, as it always is at Brovia. Today, the fruit lies in the background, while the wine's structural components are front and center. Readers should be prepared to give the Villero at least a few years in bottle.د.إ1,595.00 -

The 2013 Barolo Villero is magnificent. In fact, the 2013 may very well be the single most impressive young Brovia Villero I have tasted. Specifically, the flavors are vivid, delineated and wonderfully alive. The characteristic Villero spiced/balsamic notes are very much present. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, cloves and lavender infuse the impeccable, layered finish. Today, the Villero is explosive and showy. Readers will have to be patient. This is a fabulous showing.د.إ7,115.00 -

The 2015 Barolo Villero offers richness and darkness with fruit from Castiglione Falletto, and it's one of the more intense wines I tasted within this selection. The Villero is a balanced and polished Barolo that opens to nicely integrated fruit and spice tones, expertly interwoven and united. The wine has a beautiful entry to the palate. Indeed, this pretty wine presented a united front, with seamless and graceful integration.د.إ834.00 -

The 2016 Barolo Villero is one of the most refined editions of this wine I can remember tasting. Lavender, spice, licorice, mint and blue/purplish fruit are beautifully delineated here. Transparent and nuanced, the Villero is so classy. There is plenty of depth and structure, but what impresses most about the Villero is how unusually sophisticated it is. Time in the glass brings out the wine’s explosive personality, but the 2016 remains incredibly elegant, especially for this site. This is a tremendous showing from Brovia.د.إ2,895.00 -

The 2019 Dolcetto d'Alba Vignavillej is a deep, fleshy and voluminous wine. Inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, leather and licorice are all amplified in this decidedly large-scaled Dolcetto from Brovia. Most of this fruit is from the family's Brea property in Serralunga.د.إ614.00 -

The 2020 Dolcetto d'Alba Vignavillej, from vines in both Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga, is a powerhouse. A blast of dark fruit, smoke, licorice, melted road tar and licorice add to an impression of virile intensity. This is far from an easygoing Dolcetto.د.إ589.00 -

Here's an interesting expression from Alex Sanchez and Elena and Cristina Brovia in Castiglione Falletto. The 2014 Barolo Unìo opens to a dark color tonality and an immediately velvety texture. The bouquet is brimming with dark fruit aromas spanning from Morello cherry to bitter currant. Spice, tar, cola and balsam herb fill in the background evenly and with harmony. This is a well-balanced wine from the 2014 vintage that shows impressive integrity across all the senses. Some 24,000 bottles were produced.د.إ1,230.00 -

The 2019 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a rich and generous bouquet with blueberry and black cherry aromas, the most extravagant of Bruno Clair’s wines this year. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, very poised and focused with a mineral-driven finish that lingers in the mouth. Lovely strictness on the finish counterbalances the precocity on the nose.د.إ6,120.00 -

The 2016 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a generous and pleasing nose with scents of strawberry preserve, crushed stone, rose petals and subtle orange-blossom. This is refined and transparent. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins. Beautifully balanced, this has a symmetry that is beguiling and classic. A little austere finish suggests it will benefit from several years in bottle. Utterly beguiling with enormous ageing potential. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.د.إ9,575.00 -

The 2019 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru, populated by ancient vines planted in 1912, suffered a lot of millerandé berries. The bouquet is very well defined with white pepper and tea leaf infusing the mineral-rich black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very harmonious and smooth in texture, perhaps just needing a little more depth and grip to come through on the finish. Wonderful.د.إ8,155.00
