  • Y de Yquem 2020 (3x75cl)

    Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (97)

Give this 5 or 10 minutes to open in the glass because it has a pretty serious structure, deftly weighted, full of white pear, quince and apricot pit, balanced by savoury rosemary, straw and fennel notes, successful and totally moreish. A vintage that had the freshness necessary for great white wines in Bordeaux, and Y pulls away from the pack with this wine.

  • Y. Clerget Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 (6x75cl)
A relatively new addition to the formidable Clerget portfolio, this predictably over-achieving Bourgogne Chardonnay is sourced from vines acquired as recently as 2022 with their purchase from Domaine Régis Rossignol. Planted right alongside Clerget’s Aligoté vines, therefore on terroir Thibaut already knows intimately, this cuvée encapsulates the signature of white Côte de Beaune in 2023. Richly coloured with golden flecks, the aromas speak to Chardonnay picked at perfect ripeness. Fresh but generous, notions of stone fruits, seashell and crunchy acidity give way to a surprisingly taught structure that will unwind further with a touch of bottle age. Extremely good value given the talent on display from Clerget, this hard-to-find Chardonnay is a great addition in 2023.

  • Y. Clerget Volnay 1er Cru Carelle Sous La Chapelle 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

The 2017 Volnay En Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru has a slightly disjointed bouquet that requires only a couple of minutes to gain focus and delineation, though the aromatics lack the vibrancy and purity of the succeeding vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with pretty red cherry and red plum fruit, coming across a little conservative toward the finish, but boy, does this meliorate with aeration! After a couple of hours it suddenly goes up through the gears, developing more precision and harmony than it had immediately after opening. My score reflects this Volnay in full flight.

  • Yalumba The Caley Cabernet Shiraz 2012 (3x75cl)

    James Suckling (98)

This is a strong cross-regional combination. Immense depth of olives, cassis, blue plums and iodine with blackberries, earthy nuances, fragrant baking spices and chocolate. The palate is beautifully assembled with deep-set tannins that carry long and majestic. Rich dark-fruit flavors. A landmark first release that will drink well for decades. Drink from 2024.

  • Yalumba The Caley Cabernet Shiraz 2013 (3x75cl)

    Matthew Jukes (19.5+)

2013 is a powerhouse, with density, structure and presence, but it is not a heavy wine! Instead, this is a cerebral, through-provoking number with layer upon layer of savoury, noble fruit. The differences between the yin and yang of these two vintages is also evident in the blend. 2012 was made of 79% Cabernet (of which 27% was Barossan and the lion’s share was from Coonawarra) and 21% Barossa Shiraz. In 2013 KG marries 55% Coonawarra Cabernet with 45% Barossa Shiraz. This is a more ‘historical-Aussie-claret-shaped’ wine and the extra splash of Barossa Shiraz helps to bring flesh to the upright, masterful Cabernet.

  • Yalumba The Caley Cabernet Shiraz 2015 (3x75cl)

    The Real Review (98)

This wine is continuing to build, and is now showing a glorious perfume, the aromatics similar to the 2012, which set a very high standard that this vintage reaches and arguably surpasses. Spicy and ultra-complex, with shiraz and Barossa both evident in the wine. It's very intense, taut and concentrated, as well as finely-textured and incredibly long in the mouth. A great wine of wonderful purity and harmony. (74% Coonawarra cabernet, 26% Barossa shiraz)

  • Yalumba The Caley Cabernet Shiraz 2016 (3x75cl)

    Matthew Jukes (20++)

You have seen my MoneyWeek article above and this time that is all you are getting. This wine WILL feature in my 100 Best Australian Wines Report 2021-22, which WILL be released this year. Forgive me for the capitals, but I have had enough of this pandemic and so I am pressing on regardless. You already know my score, but here it is again and it certainly bears repeating. But before I type this perfect number again I would like to inform you that I tasted 450 bottles of 2020 En Primeur Bordeaux this year and I would, of course, love you to download this Report from this website. The reason for mentioning this is that none of them warranted a perfect score, so I hope that this underlines just how remarkable it is that The Caley has done this twice in five years and also, with an average of 19.6/20, this accounts for my lofty headline at the top of this article.

  • Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2015 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (96)

The 2015 The Signature cellar release is powerful yet understated with mulberry, blackberry and clove spice against a backdrop of beautifully integrated oak. This is rich, fleshy and still youthful, with a lovely even flow. Its fruit power and tension are still holding strong. The 2015 is getting close to its peak but has plenty left to give over at least a decade, if not two.

  • Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2016 (6x75cl)

    James Suckling (96)

A very youthful vintage, this is taut and will age very well. Aromas of blackcurrants, tar, blackberries and baking spices lead to a palate that has such an intense, gently smoky thread with a succulent, juicy red-plum, berry and spice finish. Light espresso. Super long-aging Signature here. A blend of Barossa cabernet sauvignon and shiraz. Try from 2024.

  • Yalumba The Virgilius Viognier 2018 (6x75cl)

    Halliday Wine Companion (97)

A stellar viognier. A wine that fans of the northern Rhone, such as myself, increasingly hold in great esteem. A complete understanding of the physiological tendencies of the variety is apparent: a salubrious texture. Unafraid of viscosity, weight and phenolics. Then, the aroma! Apricot, orange blossom, cumquat, honeysuckle and crystalline ginger. Long, slippery and yet not out of hand. A gentle chew and impeccable oak management reining it all in across the seams. Very fine.

So plush with a mix of red and blue-fruit aromas on the nose, as well as blood-orange and almost violet-like floral notes. The palate is very plush and juicy with such a long, seamless and silky feel. Super intense and very, very plush with deep, deep rich fruit. Mouthwatering. Super long. Super rich.

  • Yangarra Old Vine Grenache 2021 (6x75cl)

    Halliday Wine Companion (99)

Special Value. Ex 1946 Blewitt Springs bush vines planted in a deep sandy dune that Yangarra call The Beach; dry-grown, bunch-sorted, wild yeast, open fermented and basket pressed. Bright clear though deep crimson hue; scented/perfumed, and I'm gone for all money without even tasting it. And I haven't fooled myself. Except why on earth is it only $45? Its red fruit sundae glistens with dew drops on a spider's web, yet also has a savoury echo towards the finish.
  • Yann Chave Hermitage 2019 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (96)

Glass-staining purple colour. Incredibly powerful with searching perfume, leaf tea and glove leather behind the intense black fruits. Very fine and deep, perhaps just a touch too high in alcohol, a little overextracted. Phenomenal concentration and length however. A growling, brooding power, this could only be Hermitage. From vines of nearly 50 years of age grown organically on lieux-dits Beaumes and Péléat, matured in demi-muids with malolactic fermentation in barrel.

  • Yannick Amirault Bourgueil Grand Clos 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94)

From low-yielding Cabernet Franc vines that average 45 years of age and root in the silex clay soils of the côte, the 2019 Bourgueil Le Grand Clos opens with a pure, fine and intense, concentrated but also aromatic and fragrant bouquet of dark and red fruits and crushed stones along with refreshing lemony and spicy notes. Round and very elegant on the palate, this is a beautifully balanced Grand Clos with a concentrated finish with tight but fine tannins and a fresh acidity that gives a positive astringency. The aftertaste is long and intense but always in balance and underlines the remarkable finesse of this wine that aged for 12 to 18 months in 400-liter tonneaux. Tasted in June 2021.

  • Yannick Amirault Bourgueil Les Quartiers 2018 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93+)

From vines averaging 45 years of age on the slopes of the Coteau and aged in oak barrels for 20 months, the 2018 Bourgueil Les Quartiers opens with a deep, intense and toasty bouquet of ripe, black berries and blackcurrants intermixed with spicy tones, cigar box and graphite. Silky, refined and fresh on the palate, this is an elegant, tight but vivacious, silky-textured Cabernet Franc with crystalline tannins and a long finish that is still oak-influenced in its flavors, but the structure, finesse and intensity and the very delicate raspberry flavor in the aftertaste indicate excellent aging potential. Personally, I prefer the crus that were partly aged in stoneware (amphorae) and also for a shorter period, whereas Les Quartiers represents the old Amirault style, before 2014.

  • Yarra Yering Dry Red No.2 2007 (12x75cl)

    Halliday Wine Companion (95)

Relatively bright but light colour; a super-elegant, supple palate and spotless bouquet; natural acidity gives the wine its special brightness and length; new French oak and tannins play a pure support role to a classy wine which has tremendous length.

Translucent yellow. A powerful, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh orchard, pit fruits, succulent herbs and pungent flowers, along with a building mineral element. Stains the palate with juicy pear, nectarine and Meyer lemon flavors that are sharpened by a gingery flourish. Shows excellent clarity on a very long, penetrating finish that echoes the floral and mineral notes.

  • Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Sergio Zenato Riserva 2015 (6x75cl)

    James Suckling (98)

An Amarone for the future with terrific richness and tannin power, offering dried fruit, figs, blackberries, bark, mushrooms and hints of wood. Full-bodied and very structured with a powerful finish. It needs a lot of time to come around. Try it after 2024.

  • Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Sergio Zenato Riserva 2016 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (97)

This remarkable Amarone won the very highest acclaim from its original judging panel and then sailed through every subsequent judging stage, to the extent that its appearance in our Best In Show collection was never seriously in doubt. It’s already over five years old, but is still very dark in the glass -- and it’s a wine of remarkable aromatic complexity, too. Amarone-lovers will know just how many allusions these wines are capable of evoking, and it’s not hard to make out mushrooms, forest underbrush, truffle, Havana leaf and even woodland violets as well as the more usual confit cherries and plums in this wine’s aromatic profile. In the mouth, the wine is remarkably concentrated yet elegant, carrying that bundle of allusions effortlessly and seamlessly through the palate. Fine-beaded tannins lend support, and the concentration of fruit is such that any overt acidity is almost an afterthought.

Floral, mineral, complex bouquet of peach blossom, apple, herbs and stony almost silty minerals. A satin texture is contrasted by crisp acidity and a core melon, white peach and gooseberry fruit. Enticing and complete with a lick of sea salt, mineral and blossoms on the finish. Delicious and complete. Drinking Window 2021 - 2026

  • Ziereisen Jaspis Pinot Noir 2017 (6x75cl)

Experience the elegance of German craftsmanship with the Ziereisen Jaspis Pinot Noir 2017. This exquisite bottle hails from the Ziereisen estate, a small, family-owned winery in Baden, where innovative viticultural practices meet tradition. Handcrafted from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, this exquisite vinous offering is created in the Burgundian style. The wine undergoes open fermentation in used oak casks, highlighting the fruit concentration and complex layers of the native German Pinot Noir terroir. Select old vines yield low amounts of intensely flavoured fruits resulting in a wine of outstanding quality.

The Ziereisen Jaspis Pinot Noir 2017 declares itself with a dark yet vibrant garnet hue, promising a nose filled with ripe black cherries balanced by earthy undertones. On the palate, it reveals a complex constellation of flavours - structured tannins, balanced acidity and a phenomenally long finish. A must-have for fine wine collectors and a delightful discovery for enthusiasts of Pinot Noir's versatility.

  • Zind Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rotenberg 2019 (6x75cl)

    James Suckling (95)

This self-confidently atypical pinot gris has astonishing acidity that’s got the intensity of a lightning strike. Tons of pineapple and toast character, but also gigantic, lemony freshness at the exceptionally bright finish. May be too extreme for some, but we find this amazing. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
