New Release | Sette Ponti Oreno 2019
Currently the highest scoring Super Tuscan to emerge from the 2019 vintage, Tenuta Sette Ponti have announced their flagship wine Oreno will have a special label in 2019 to celebrate 20 years since its first release.
Taking its name from the stream that runs through this classic Tuscan winery, this 2019 release scores a huge 99 points from James Suckling, who was completely wowed by it and lauds it as 'one of the best modern-day Orenos'.
Like the famous Galatrona of Petrolo, Oreno is made predominantly of Merlot, with the rest being Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Proprietor Antonio Moretti has increased the amount of Merlot in the blend in 2019, which has clearly paid dividends, and this massive score shows just how good Merlot from Tuscany's Val di Sopra region can be.
Offering gorgeous deep aromas of blackberries, currants, spices minerals, violets and graphite, the the Merlot really shines through but in a very refined manner. With fantastic length and texture on the palate, the firm, silky tannins that are 'incredibly polished and intense', and as always 'so refined and integrated' (JS) into this Oreno.
Released at only £295 per case IB, the combination of this being the highest scoring Oreno to date, its special anniversary label and offering exceptional value versus the newest releases of its top Super Tuscan rivals mean Sette Ponti Oreno 2019 should be a shoo-in for all Italian wine lovers' cellars.
