Last year, the world mourned the loss of a visionary with the unfortunate passing of Luciano Sandrone. Born into a family of carpenters, Sandrone's allergy to sawdust and an innate interest in agriculture nudged him toward winemaking. He initially worked at Borgogno when he was 17 and later joined Marchesi di Barolo after completing his military service. These invaluable experiences gave him the confidence to embark on his own winemaking journey in 1978 with just 2.5 hectares of vines in the Barolo cru of Cannubi, producing a mere 1,500 bottles.

Sandrone subsequently gained fame as part of the Barolo boys and became well-known for embracing innovation in winemaking while paradoxically staying attached to many expressions of tradition. Today, the estate produces three Barolos – Le Vigne, Aleste, and Vite Talin.

The year 2016 will be remembered as one of the greatest vintages for Barolo in the decade, and it has rewarded Sandrone estate's globally renowned Barolos.
