Escarpment Pinot Noir 2018s

It is no secret that New Zealand, specifically Central Otago and Marlborough, has emerged as a thrilling alternative to Burgundian Pinot Noir. This ancient island in the Southern Hemisphere possesses exceptional and beautiful terroir, giving rise to ethereal and aromatic Pinots that are on par with many Burgundian offerings at a fraction of the price.

One of the New Zealand’s Pinot Noir gurus” and “a man of vision and hard graft” (WA), Larry McKenna of Escarpment produces some seriously impressive Pinots from Marlborough. A veteran winemaker with over 30 years of studies and experience, McKenna is firmly established as one of the leading winemakers in the country, crafting pure and transparent wines that capture the hearts and minds of oenophiles the world over.

Given that it is increasingly difficult to get hold of Mckenna's wine given their quality and his reputation, we are thrilled to have secured a new parcel of their single-vineyard bottlings after the frenzied sell-out offer last year.

  • Escarpment Kupe Pinot Noir 2018 (6x75cl)

    The Real Review (96)

Deepish, bright, youthful red/purple colour, with a lovely fragrant bouquet of red and dark cherries, strawberry and rose petals. It's complex and foresty too, but shows more primary fruit and perfume than usual for a young Escarpment pinot. Dried flowers, dried herb, savoury underbrush aromas. Very complex and profound in the mouth, with a very long carry. The tannins are in excellent harmony. An outstanding vintage for this vineyard. (70% whole-bunches)
