The 2016 Barolo Capalot Vecchie Viti is dark, beguiling and very pretty. Rose petal, orange peel, cinnamon, kirsch, sweet red cherry and sweet pipe tobacco give the Capalot striking aromatic nuance and a real sense of exoticism that is quite inviting. Medium in body and constantly changing in the glass, the Capalot captures all of the complexities that make Nebbiolo and Barolo so fascinating. The tannins need time to soften, but there is plenty to look forward to once that happens.د.إ594.00 -

The 2017 Barolo Capalot Vecchie Viti is another fabulous wine from Burzi. Dark, mysterious and beautifully layered in the glass, the Capalot is just captivating from the very first taste. Macerated black cherry, lavender, sage, spice, coffee and leather are some of the many notes that open over time in a Barolo that is deep yet also wonderfully transparent. The 2017 is so nuanced, so complex, so beautiful. It is also easily the best wine I have tasted from Burzi.د.إ535.00 -

Stunning rose-petal nose with hints of licorice and herbal tea. The palate has generosity, and the tannins have a polish that's rare in 2014 Barolos. If you like tannins, then you will agree with us that this is already delicious. It also has a long life ahead of it. Better after 2020.د.إ6,635.00 -

The 2014 Barolo Colonnello is dark and inward. Succulent black cherry, smoke, leather, licorice, menthol and dark spice all run through this unctuous, super-concentrated Barolo. In most vintages, the Colonnello is a bit more aromatic and light on its feet, while the 2014 is a decidedly rich, heady wine, and yet all the elements are in the right place.د.إ2,300.00 -

The luster of new oak shines bright here, as do the very bright and assertively ripe cherries and red plums, as well as orange zest. The tannins are a highlight with a very fluid and fleshy core of red-fruit flavor, building to a tight and long finish. This is regal Barolo. Try from 2023.د.إ2,555.00 -

This wine blew me away. The 2009 Barolo Riserva Granbussia is a proud achievement and an expression of rare beauty. This wine will be released this fall, some nine years after the harvest. Only 3,000 bottles were produced. The Granbussia narrative is one of elegance and refinement. The fruit comes from two vineyard parcels in the greater Bussia cru and was co-fermented (instead of being blended after malolactic fermentation). So much fruit was dropped during the summer growing cycle that the harvest came later than usual. This allowed for slow, even ripening and a deeper sense of aromatic complexity that you immediately identify here. The nose is redolent of wet earth and autumnal leaf with white truffle and forest berry. The wine offers extreme Nebbiolo purity with anise seed, tar and licorice.د.إ5,080.00 -

The 2014 Barolo Bussia Romirasco shows the merits of strict fruit selection in a challenging vintage. Only 4,620 bottles were made in order to preserve the highest quality obtainable. This is a complete and generous expression that starts off with a succession of black fruit aromas and continues to lighter notes of anise seed, tar, licorice and blue violet. The mouthfeel offers volume and texture with nicely integrated tannins. In order to get this quality, fruit selection was key, says Giacomo Conterno.د.إ3,560.00 -

The 2016 Barolo Bussia Cascina Dardi is a terrific wine from brothers Alessandro and Gian Natale Fantino. Wonderfully deep, layered and nuanced, the 2016 has so much going on. As always, there is something incredibly personal about these wines. The 2016 is not a perfect wine (there is some volatile acidity), but it is beguiling and compelling in every way. Menthol, spice, dried herbs and a whole range of balsamic-infused notes wrap around a core of dark fruit as this mysterious, enthralling Barolo gradually shows off its considerable charms.د.إ883.00 -

All of the elements come together beautifully in the 2007 Barolo San Rocco, a wine that captures the essence of this great vintage as seen through the lens of one of Serralunga’s top sites. A dark, sensual Barolo, the San Rocco offers up a compelling array of blueberries, blackberries, smoke, licorice, spices and menthol. The finish is round, enveloping and powerful. There is an element of mystery to the San Rocco that is particularly intriguing. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.د.إ2,530.00 -

Dark cherry, plum, smoke, menthol, melted road tar and graphite meld together in the 2010 Barolo San Rocco. A big, explosive wine, the 2010 blossoms in the glass with layers of deep, expressive fruit. The San Rocco is usually a wine of volume and breadth, at it is again in 2010. The firm Serralunga tannins are present, but they are also beautifully balanced. I can't wait to see how the 2010 develops. Today, the San Rocco is young, young, young.د.إ3,160.00 -

The 2015 Barolo is outrageously beautiful. Best of all, it will drink well with minimal cellaring. Rich, sumptuous and super-expressive, the 2015 is such a showy and expressive wine.
