Vinous (98)Rich and explosive in feel, the 2021 Cheval Blanc is outrageously beautiful. For the first time since 2011, the Grand Vin is more than 50% Cabernet Franc. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, dried herbs, menthol, licorice and mocha are all amplified in this potent, luxurious Cheval Blanc. Polished, seamless tannins wrap it all together. This is one of my favorites of the vintage. |

Jeb Dunnuck (100)The 2022 Château Cheval Blanc is based on 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, brought up all in new oak, and this is the second year where no Petite Cheval was produced. (2015 was the last.) Its deep purple color is followed by a riveting Cheval Blanc that has fabulous aromatics of blackcurrants, spice, flowers, spicy wood, and white truffle. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, remarkably pure, elegant, seamless 2022 that has a layered, rounded mouthfeel, absolutely riveting purity, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It brings to mind a more refined, elegant version of the 2010 and is every bit its equal. Hitting 14% alcohol with a healthy pH of 3.83, it warrants a solid decade of bottle age and will have 40-50+ years of overall prime drinking. |

Wine Advocate (100)From bottle, the 2023 Château Cheval Blanc is one of the most compelling wines of the vintage, just as it was from cask. Bursting with aromas of cherries and mulberries mingled with notions of violets, rose petal and anise, it's full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a deep and enveloping core of vibrant fruit, ripe tannins and a long, expansive finish. It's a blend of 52% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, drawing on fully 46 of the blocks that make up Cheval Blanc, and it attained 13.8% alcohol. |

Immerse yourself in the world of exceptional Burgundy wines with Clerget Echezeaux Grand Cru Orveaux 2019. Held in high esteem by wine connoisseurs, this extraordinary Grand Cru from Domaine Y. Clerget is a testament to the fertile terroirs of Vosne-Romanée. Produced from a meticulously-sourced plot in lieu-dit Les Orveaux, this remarkable vintage impresses with its complexity and finesse. All fruits were destemmed, employing only natural yeasts in the delicate fermentation process directing the spotlight unto the impeccable flavours of the Pinot Noir grapes. Aged impeccably in French oak barrels for 18 months, the Clerget Echezeaux Grand Cru Orveaux 2019 attests to the careful protective ageing from winemaker Yörgen Clerget. Unfolding in a symphony of ripe red and black fruits, this luscious, velvety wine leaves an enduring impression with its lengthy finish. A single sip of Clerget Echezeaux Grand Cru Orveaux 2019 is truly a sublime journey into the heart of Burgundy's impressive winemaking history. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru, blended from six parcels, is pure, focused and taut, all while expressing the natural richness of the year. Lemon confit, white flowers, white pepper, mint and a kiss of French oak add striking aromatic top notes to match the wine's linear, energetic feel. The Vaillons has a surprising amount of freshness and lift, with bright saline notes that extend the finish. I suspect the opulence of the year will emerge more fully over time, but this is nevertheless a fine showing. |

Burghound (87-90)A mildly fruity nose reflects additional notes of quinine, citrus and ocean breeze. The racy and nicely detailed medium weight flavors that flash a touch of youthful austerity on the refreshing medium dry finale. This should drink well relatively early on. |

Vinous (94)The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a concentrated bouquet with yellow fruit, orange rind and light crushed stone. It coalesces nicely in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, lightly spiced with fine grip, tensile, even a little mean on the finish. Wonderful salinity. Superb. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. |

Vinous (94)The 2019 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a clean, precise, more floral bouquet than the Valmur; white flower petal scents infuse the citrus fruit, along with a hint of egg whites. The palate is well balanced, taut and linear, with great poise and nervosité, leading to an intense and very persistent finish. This will vie with the Valmur as best Grand Cru. |

Tim Atkin MW (95)Christian and Fabien own an enviable three hectares that extend two-thirds of the way up the slope. This 2020 is almost cozy with concentrated extract at the core. This generous body is smartly lifted by vivid acidity. The flavors range from citrus and star fruit to roasted hazelnuts and a hint of smoke. 2024-40 |

Vinous (94)The 2020 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru has a well-defined nose, citrus fruit mixed with pear, wet limestone and green apples, tight at first but responds to aeration. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, taut and fresh with a lovely, lip-smacking salinity that fires up the finish. Excellent. |

Vinous (92+)The 2020 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru has a backward bouquet that demands coaxing from the glass: wet pavement, pressed yellow flowers and a touch of flint. Very focused. Fresh and saline, the palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity; however, it remains quite strict and oddly like a 2021 towards the close. Give this three or four years in bottle. |

Jeb Dunnuck (95-97)For lovers of powerful, massive Côte Rôtie, the 2019 Côte Rôtie La Brocarde from Billon is going to punch that ticket. Decadent black fruits, scorched earth, roasted meats, and spicy nuances all define this beauty, and it's full-bodied, with a decadent, layered texture, one heck of a great mid-palate, and the density, structure, and balance to benefit from 7-8 years of bottle age and evolve for 20-30 years. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (89)The 2016 Citran has a classic tobacco-scented bouquet that is quite austere at first but opens up with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, not complex but offering fine salinity toward the finish, which just needs a little more mineralité and detail. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2016 Anjou Violette is deep, intense, very pure and elegant on the harmonious nose, with perfectly ripe dark and red berry aromas (blackcurrant) intertwined with floral aromas. Silky, finessed and fresh on the palate, this is a very delicate and charming blend of Cab Franc (two-thirds 45-year-old vines) and Cab Sauvignon (one-third 65-year-old vines) with perfectly ripe, concentrated but juicy fruit, a velvety and concentrated texture, very fine and crunchy tannins and enormous intensity, thanks to the low-yielding Cabernets. This is a beautifully finessed and silky-textured Anjou that reveals its concentration and depth only on the finish. The wine was aged in barrels for 18 months and then spent another six months in vat. Bottled in April 2017. |

Wine Advocate (91)The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Villages is superb, unfurling in the glass with a youthful bouquet of sweet cassis, wild berries and peony that mingles with subtle hints of candied peel, grilled meat and rich forest floor. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, pure and velvety, structured around a chassis of fine-grained tannins that will demand some bottle age, underpinned by bright acids and concluding with a strikingly fragrant finish. It's a beautiful wine that exemplifies the fragrant, precise style that Bertrand Dugat and his siblings are coaxing from their family's enviable patrimony of old and meticulously farmed vines. |

Wine Advocate (94+)Situated just 500 meters from plot 469, this single vineyard (only 45 acres) benefits from having its vines planted in very shallow limestone soils complemented by a highly ventilated climate. So, the 2022 Sancerre Monoparcelle 538 reveals a pure, deep bouquet of ripe orchard fruits, an elegant reduction of oak, spices and citrus mingled with iodine-inflected, menthol notes. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it’s round and charming with a fleshy core of fruit, bright acids, chalky dry extracts and a long, saline, ethereal finish. This is a superb rendition of this soil. Matured 18 months in foudres or wooden tanks. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)Great quality, showing flesh and succulence among plentiful black fruits, brambled hedgerow, salted cracker, oyster shell, pomegranate, cassis. Fresh acidities also, definitely plenty of life ahead, austere on the finish still. Intense and concentrated. Tasted at the estate recently also. Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy director. 55% new oak for ageing. Harvest September 26 to October 15. |

Decanter (96)The progression of this property continues to be evident in the glass with a beautiful classicism, full of life and layers comprising dark spice and touches of black pepper against blueberry and cool fruits, pumped up by black chocolate and liquorice. It’s confident and clearly has a fierce quality to the tannins giving a long life ahead of it. The harvest started on September 17, one week later than Mouton because of its cooler terroir, with the blend completed by 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmanère. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2019 Clerc Milon is a real success. At more than 70%, this blend contains one of the highest proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon in the property's recent history, and the result is a wine of real nobility. Offering up aromas of violets, wild berries, licorice, loamy soil and cigar wrapper, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with notable depth at the core, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish. From clay-limestone soils rather than the sandy gravels that characterize d'Armailhac, this is by some margin the more structured and serious of Mouton-Rothschild's two Pauillac stablemates. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)Pauillac was close to normal rainfall, with less mildew than other parts of the region, helping to usher in the excellent crop of wines that you will find in the appellation in 2023. This joins the best of them with its superb quality, and a real sense of excitement and drive. Expect vivacity and tension in the blue and black fruits, with liqourice root, squid ink, salted cracker, white pepper spice and freshly cut herbs. September 7 to 29 for harvest, 55% new oak barrels for ageing. Carmanère dating from 1947 is in this 1st wine, with the massal selection descendents in Pastourelle. Caroline Artaud director. |

Wine Enthusiast (98)97-99 Barrel sample. A tasting from several barrels, because the chateau has not made the final blend, so the rating is provisional. But the wine is so rich, with an almost perfect balance of acidity and ripeness, allied to a complete purity of honeyed botrytis. However the final wine turns out, it will be magnificent. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (97)Gracious, light on its feet and positively sublime, the 2015 Climens is one of the wines of the vintage. Its airiness and grace are hard to capture with words. Lightly honeyed notes, chamomile and exotic flowers lead into orchard fruit and candied citrus in this impeccably polished, nuanced Barsac. I would prefer to cellar the 2015 for at least a few years to get the benefit of even more complexity, but readers will have a very hard time keeping their hands off this gem from Climens and proprietor Bérénice Lurton. |
