Burghound (93)
(from Les Baudes Basses). Like the Vosne-Romanée “Petits Monts”, there is a hint of mocha to the ripe plum, red berry earth and moderate wood-suffused nose. The rich, full-bodied and powerful flavors possess good if not special mid-palate density as well as solid energy that carries over to the youthfully austere, firm and built-to-age finale that exhibits lovely balance. This is also quite good and a wine that should amply repay extended keeping.د.إ3,765.00 -

Deep crimson colour. A very lively fruit here, all in red berries. Good tension here, a few drops of a darker fruit but this remains mostly in a bright red profile, fresh but not firm tannins and very good length. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted Dec 2024.د.إ3,570.00 -
Burghound (93)
(from the climats of Les Treux and Clos St. Denis). This is also trimmed in enough wood to notice on the beautifully layered nose of both red and dark currant, exotic tea, spice and floral wisps. The exceptionally rich and nicely textured medium weight plus flavors are shaped by dense but fine tannins on the mouthcoating and lingering finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This too offers excellent development potential and it’s just as well because it definitely needs to add depth with time in bottle.د.إ5,630.00 -

A more energetic ruby crimson, with a sweeter perfumed fruit. Flowers and raspberries. Delicious energy throughout and light on its feet. Maybe less immediately striking than Gaudichots but I think it is the finer of the two. I love the aftertaste. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted Dec 2024.د.إ5,630.00 -

(from vines planted between 1937 and 1942). This is also attractively floral in character with its nose of red and dark currant and more obvious earth influence that is also trimmed in moderate wood. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the fleshy yet nicely detailed medium-bodied flavors that flash evident minerality on the dusty and youthfully austere finale where the supporting tannic spine is even finer. This is quite good with fine development potential yet it should also drink reasonably well young.د.إ1,625.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)
A little more depth of colour, crimson ruby. Dark cherry and plum, with some concentration while remaining accessible. Exemplary for this middle section of Nuits, with ripe tannins, good length. Drink from 2031-2037. Tasted Dec 2024.د.إ1,915.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)
Bright purple. So sensual on the nose, a dark fruit still with redder highlights, bursting with energy some fresh red and energised black berry fruit highlights, few tannins though there is a sense of structure and great length. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted Dec 2024.د.إ3,520.00 -

(from 10 separate parcels of vines, most of which are located in the lower section of Flagey). Here the expressive and slightly riper nose is spicier still with its markedly floral nose that reflects notes of violet, lavender and rose petal on the black cherry and kirsch nuances. The suave, concentrated and seductively textured middleweight flavors where the velvety mouthfeel contrasts somewhat with the firm, serious and robust finale that exhibits excellent length. This will definitely need time but the quality is impressive for a villages-level wine.د.إ1,292.00 -

Three casks from three different spots. Slightly cloudy cherry red. Really rich and solid. From a very good producer (a long-term proposition) and made in the domaine philosophy. Lots of tannin on the end. Very energetic. Very slightly bitter on the end.د.إ6,610.00 -

The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a decadent bouquet of red cherry and cranberry aromas, touches of pain d’épices and a hint of menthol emerging with time. But somehow it manages to retain control. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, slightly chalky tannins, good depth and a gentle grip toward the focused finish. This should age extremely well.د.إ8,620.00 -

Medium deep crimson purple. A very floral bouquet, on first impression perhaps this Clos St-Jacques could use more precision. Sensual and succulent, dark raspberry and blackberry, the suggestion of stems (were some added back in?) add a little structure which is probably necessary as the tannins and acidity are not otherwise pronounced. Still a wine which will give great pleasure. Now I can find the precision at the back, allied to the charm. Drink from 2028.د.إ7,845.00 -

Healthy medium red. Slightly stunted but pure aromas of red berries and black cherry are less exuberant than those of the Champeaux. Also more restrained and tightly wound in the mouth, but with vibrant acidity and a sensation of peppery grip giving the wine terrific inner-mouth energy. Classic 2013 in its tautness and cut. Finishes ripely tannic and long; this should be a beauty with mid-term cellaring.د.إ17,260.00 -
Vinous (90-92)
Good deep red. Reduced nose dominated by smoked meat. Then deep, ripe and aromatic in the mouth, with a blackberry flavor complicated by a gamey nuance. Concentrated, fine-grained and sappy, conveying a glyceral impression. Finishes quite suave and expressive, with broad, fine tannins and lovely lingering perfume.د.إ7,850.00 -

The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru comes from two parcels, one planted north-south and the other east-west. Its attractive bouquet offers brambly red berry fruit, forest floor and light black truffle scents. There is good complexity here; it is very composed. The palate is well-balanced, with good depth and gentle grip. There is mainly black fruit here with plenty of freshness and mineralité. The finish has commendable precision and feels long and tender. Excellent.د.إ1,355.00 -

Outstanding. Much like the Limozin, the expressive nose is perfumed and elegant with its cool array of just sliced citrus, smoked apple and subtle floral and spice wisps. There is excellent punch to the beautifully textured medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the balanced and sneaky long finish. Like several of the wines in the range, this could use better depth but it is clearly built-to-age and developing more complexity should just be a matter of patience.د.إ4,306.00 -

The 2017 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Vasées unfurls in the glass with aromas of smoky blackberries, cassis, grilled game bird and espresso roast. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and nicely concentrated, its fine but chalky tannins largely cloaked in fleshy fruit.د.إ771.00 -

The 2019 Les Grands Teppes Vieilles Vignes, always my favorite Chardonnay, doesn't disappoint in this vintage either. It feels a little creamier and a little richer than vintages like 2013 and 2014, reflecting a warmer year. The palate is super intense, with a long, tasty and saline finish.د.إ5,745.00 -

From a higher elevation site on the Côte Blonde side of the appellation, the 2018 Côte Rôtie Lancement shines more for its complexity and elegance than sheer power, offering a kaleidoscope-like array of black raspberries, blueberries, spring flowers, violets, crushed rocks, and pepper. A wine that benefits from air, it gains richness and depth with time in the glass and has medium to full body, ultra-fine tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. It doesn't have the minerality of the Les Rochins, but it’s just as seamless, elegant, and finesse-driven as they come. This magical Côte Rôtie will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and pretty much blow you away over the following 20 years or more.د.إ3,755.00 -

Dramatically different, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Les Rochins is more meaty, bloody, and iron-driven aromatically, yet on balance it has beautiful finesse and elegance. This comes from the Côte Brune and has plenty of tannins, medium to full body, gorgeous balance, and one heck of a great finish. It’s not for the early crowd though.د.إ1,541.00 -

The 2014 Gazin was stubborn and broody when tasted in bottle, but give it a few swirls and there comes forth gravel and black truffle scents alongside sultry black fruit. These aromatics are so engaging and involving, drawing you in towards it charms. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp and taut with great precision and sappiness towards the focused, almost symmetrical, black truffle-laced finish. This continues Gazin's fine run of form, a great Pomerol from an estate predisposed these days to create sophisticated, classic wines.د.إ2,455.00 -

The deep purple, inky-hued 2018 Château Gazin comes from the Pomerol plateau and is 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. A brilliant nose of blueberries, candied cherries, wildflowers, tobacco, chocolate, and spice gives way to a stunning Pomerol with full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This plush, sexy, opulent Pomerol does everything right. It already offers pleasure yet will ideally be given 4-6 years of bottle age and will have two decades or so over overall longevity.د.إ1,760.00 -

The 2019 has a beguiling bouquet with red berry fruit, truffle and light Provençal herb scents that are beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. This is exquisite in terms of balance, silky smooth, building gradually with a harmonious and quite effortless finish. Divine - this is a stellar showing.
