An intricately layered nose freely offers up its combination of ripe white and yellow orchard fruit, especially peach, and less floral but spicier aromas. The rich, textured and vibrant flavors possess very fine mid-palate density that brims with dry extract on the sappy finish that is supported by lemon-tinged acidity. The Séguinot’s roots in Maligny date back to 1590. This is a complete Fourchaume from Jean-François Bordet which balances the richness, concentration and intensity of Fourchaume with fresh acid, a lovely mineral undertow and complexity of flavour. Disarmingly drinkable already, this has the potential to age and become a memorable Fourchaume in three to four years.د.إ1,670.00 -

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Gain 1er Cru has the best aromatics of Tawse’s white with delineated, mineral-driven citrus fruit that blossoms in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with fine delineation, citrus fresh with touches of orange zest and nectarine towards the finish that has plenty of energy. Excellent.د.إ2,945.00 -

A domaine wine, badly hit by the frost. Clear bright colour, a light barrel toast but clearly with interesting fruit beneath. There is quite some concentration on the palate especially at the back, with yellow plum and pear fruit, a good thread of acidity and persistence.د.إ4,120.00 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has an even heavier reduction than David Croix's "C.C." and this seems more fixed despite transferring between glasses. The palate is better with admirable weight and depth. The reduction is still more pronounced than I would prefer, though it is redeemed by a lovely spiciness on the admittedly oaky finish plus there is plenty of vigour and length. How this Corton-Charlemagne will play out depends on what happens to that reduction... it could go either way, hence the question mark against my score. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, fresh and quite saline, perhaps it just need a little more complexity towards the finish, but otherwise this is well-crafted.د.إ3,920.00 -

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanchot-Dessus 1er Cru was one of the big (pleasant) surprises of the tasting. It has a more composed and complex bouquet compared to others in this flight, with a little more crushed stone, blood oranges and light quince aromas developing in the glass. Impressive delineation and the oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity, just a dab of sour lemon and orange rind, quite peppery in style with a bravura finish. The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru is more reserved on the nose, but well defined with crushed stone and touches of pressed flowers and chai. The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Le Cailleret 1er Cru shows a little more reduction on the nose than the Morgeots, although there is good concentration here. The palate is quite vibrant on the entry with lemon zest, quince and a touch of orange pith. Plenty of energy, well focused with a saline finish, this is a fine Chassagne from Girardin.د.إ2,235.00 -

The 2019 Meursault Les Charmes-Dessus 1er Cru comes from two parcels located down from Les Perrières. The vines are 65 years old, one parcel on SO4 rootstock that is particularly low-yielding. This has a pretty bouquet, understated at first and then unfolding to reveal crushed stone and yellow flower aromas. The palate is well balanced with a smooth, slightly honeyed opening, richer than the preceding Village Crus but nicely focused. Lemon curd and a touch of stem ginger toward the finish. A delicious Meursault to drink over the next 12–15 years.د.إ2,700.00 -

As I wrote shortly after it was bottled, the 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is one of the sites that Germain's team was able to thoroughly protect from the spring frosts (I remember driving past the parcel 10 days later, with it and Domaine Leflaive's vines standing out as the solitary island of green amidst a sea of desiccated buds), and the result is a wine that transcends the vintage. Offering up notes of waxy citrus rind, buttery pastry, iodine and white flowers, it's medium- to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with racy acids, chalky structuring extract and a long, saline finish.د.إ3,875.00 -

The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne "Quintessence" Grand Cru comes from the Aloxe-Corton side, from a climat, and is made with purchased grapes from vines around 55–60 years old. The rather muted nose has trouble following on from the clearly more expressive Puligny Les Combettes. The palate is balanced with a fine bead of acidity, but the truth is that I find this missing the complexity and mineralité of a Grand Cru, surpassed by some of Girardin’s excellent Premier Crus this vintage.د.إ6,895.00 -

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne "Quintessence" Grand Cru comes from a single parcel in Aloxe-Corton. This has more complexity and energy on the nose compared to the regular cuvée with fresh pineapple, grapefruit, crushed stone and a touch of mirabelle. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, harmonious and quite refined, not powerful on the finish but linear and poised. Eight barrels produced.د.إ5,885.00 -

There are 13,053 bottles of Domaine de la Vougeraie's superb 2017 Vougeot 1er Cru Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot, representing a modest yield for this emblematic monopole. Opening in the glass with a pretty bouquet of fresh green pear, peach, mandarin oil and petrol, framed by a discreet touch of nutty new oak, the wine is medium to full-bodied, racy and precise, with a delicate and elegantly tight-knit core of fruit and a long, precise finish. As readers may know, small percentages of Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc complement Chardonnay in this cuvée.د.إ2,620.00 -

William Fevre own 46ha of AP Chablis but there was lots of frost damage in 2021 - the yield was just 18hl/ha! Lovely floral notes here, very precise and focussed. This is already appealing although the acidity is certainly evident. Lingering spice notes on the finish. From a tank sample, with bottling due in November. (from a .55 ha parcel). Slightly honied aromas of exotic white and yellow peach are laced with moderate amounts of classic Chablis character. Interestingly, the medium-bodied flavors are not quite as dense as those of the Les Lys though they are still notably powerful while offering just a bit more depth on the sneaky long, sappy and serious finale. Planted by William's father, these vines are now 55 years old. All the parcels here are on steep slopes. The scintillating nose starts with salted lemons and perky grapefruit peels. The 2017 Chablis Bougros Côte Bouguerots Grand Cru is mind-bending. Usually a more powerful Chablis, in 2017 the Côte Bouguerots is airy, weighty and beautifully lifted, with pretty floral and saline notes that confer a great deal of freshness. The 2017 opens up beautifully with time in the glass, showing tons of volume and resonance, all retaining its bright, sculpted personality.د.إ2,085.00
