Opaque ruby. Ripe black and blue fruits, licorice and candied flowers on the spice-accented nose. In a round, lush style, showing very good depth and energy to its sweet blueberry, floral pastille and spicecake flavors. Lingers with strong tenacity on the youthfully tannic finish, leaving behind a suave floral note.د.إ615.00 -

Shiraz greanache and mataro under the umbrella of a great harvest sees this punching into a new level of quality, it's the best Bin 138 to date. There's a very clear blackberry and raspberry interplay on the nose as shiraz leads and grenache dances. On the palate it is more about mataro and the sturdy silky, laid back spread of tannin underpins a generous yet vibrant wine. Lingers with sultry intent, great value. Drink now to 2030.د.إ875.00 -

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz has decadent blueberry pie and crème de cassis notes with touches of milk chocolate, baking spices and dried mint. Full-bodied, rich and seductive in the mouth, it fills the palate with voluptuous, spice-laced black fruit and finishes on a minty note.د.إ1,005.00 -

A whirlwind of a wine, the nose here has candied citrons, limes and white spring flowers that combine with a flinty edge of sulphidic complexity before opening to white peaches and nectarines. This is really elemental, pared back and restrained — an infant of a wine with much to come in time. The palate has a core of very pure, deep-set, citrus-focused fruit that's really focused around grapefruit. There are some subtle hints of honey and spices, and it turns savory through the latter phases and gently nutty. It's also gently grippy, nicely layered and very long. There's measure and restraint for all the richness; it's a cleverly composed iteration of an outstanding Adelaide Hills vintage. Give this until 2019 to build in bottle. It's an outstanding wine.د.إ283.34 -

A single vineyard wine, matured for 14 months in new French oak in which it finished the final stages of its fermentation. The bouquet is laden with cassis of startling purity, and while cedary oak is a major player, it is so well-integrated it doesn't overwhelm, let alone challenge, the fruit.د.إ4,664.75 -

Cabernet just has the upper hand in the blend at 53%; this continues as a rising star in the Penfolds family of reds, showing a very attractive fusion of cabernet and shiraz. Cassis, blackberry, red plums and red currant fruits, the palate isn't overplayed in terms of weight or extract, but it's very complete and nicely rendered. Best from 2020-2030+.د.إ2,394.00 -

A blend of Coonawarra, Padthaway, McLaren Vale and Barrossan Cabernet fruit, this impressive Bin 407 spent 12 months in French and American oak hogsheads. It has an inviting nose of blueberry, cassis and cedar with a touch of tea leaf. The palate is smooth and sleek with round, grainy tannins that don’t lack grip or substance, and a constant pulsing presence of linear acidity. Cola, cream, blackcurrant and blueberry notes are the main characters here, with a mineral, wet stone backdrop to a persistent and tapering finish.د.إ1,785.00 -

Extremely pale gold. Fresh citrus and pit fruit, melon and pungent floral aromas, along with a chalky mineral overtone. Vibrant and focused on the palate, offering juicy peach, tangerine and honeydew flavors that deepen and spread out slowly with air. Shows powerful floral character on the long, incisive finish, which leaves behind lively citrus fruit and floral notes.د.إ655.00 -

Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 707 is simply a chocolate box of layered delights, revealing crème de cassis and black cherry notes plus underlying roasted nuts, espresso, licorice, pepper, menthol hints and a waft of cedar chest. Full-bodied and built like a brick house, the firm, grainy structure well-supports the densely packed fruit and savory layers, finishing with epic persistence and on a spicy note. This is a keeper that should cellar well over 20+ years!د.إ7,765.00 -

The 1981 stood out as slightly superior. Winemaker John Duval always felt this was a tannic style of Grange, but the wine has shed its tannins, and this is one of the few vintages where the percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon was above 10%. Sweet notes of creme de cassis, cedarwood, charcoal, and barbecue spices are followed by a full-bodied, opulent wine displaying heady amounts of alcohol, glycerin, and density in its full-bodied, skyscraper-like texture. I was drinking this wine with great pleasure in the mid-nineties, yet here it is nearly 15 years later, and the wine does not appear to have budged much from its evolutionary state. This is a testament to how remarkably well these wines hold up, and age at such a glacial pace.د.إ1,499.00 -

Production: 10,960 cases of 6 Blend: 90% Shiraz/10% Cabernet Sauvignon A youthful opaque purple color and a tight but promising nose of jammy cassis with a touch of prunes and smoky oak, are followed by a backward, full-bodied, typical Grange that requires 5-6 more years of cellaring. This huge, lavishly-oaked, unevolved wine is an outstanding effort with 20 years of aging potential. Note: The production figures shown are for twelve bottle cases unless otherwise noted. Magnificent, exotic, a veritable cascade of opulent flavors--earthy currant, black cherry and licorice--on a grand frame of incredible length, wrapped in finely grained tannins. Feels like it can age through 2010 or 2020, at least.--Penfolds Grange vertical. 8,000 cases made. -HSد.إ917.94 -

Outstanding dense but bright purple-red; a powerful, concentrated bouquet with blackberry, mulberry and licorice aromas, and the oak seemingly more restrained than is usual. A powerful but impeccably balanced and structured wine, redolent of black cherry, licorice and mulberry fruit flavours; oozing class, breeding and staying power. It will be very interesting to watch the development of this wine versus the much-vaunted '90 and '91 vintages.د.إ917.94 -

A massive wine, majestic in its proportions, combining power and grace in equal measure. Flavors of plum, blackberry, chocolate and pepper, with hints of cedar, licorice and mint, swirl through the exotic finish. Tannins swarm but don't overwhelm the finish, which echoes all day and night. Best from 2004 through 2020. 9,800 cases made. -HSد.إ2,340.00 -

Powerful, aristocratic and impressive in the way it gathers up its flavors and lets them hang on and on. The range starts with black cherry, blackberry, exotic spice and mineral, and moves on to dark licorice, pepper and subtle gamy notes. Then it all comes together and picks up speed on the lingering finish. Best after 2007. 9,000 cases made.د.إ1,765.32 -

It is always a treat to taste Australia’s most famous wine, Penfolds’ Grange cuvee (the word Hermitage has been dropped because of legal issues). The 2001 Grange is one of the few vintages of this cuvee to be composed of 100% Shiraz (the others being 1951, 1952, 1963, 1999, and 2000). Aged 17 months in 100% American oak, and tipping the scales at 14.5% alcohol, the 2001 is undeniably one of the top examples of this wine. At this stage, it appears to eclipse the 1998 and 1996. Inky/blue/purple to the rim, with a stunning perfume of blueberries, blackberries, chocolate, graphite, and earth, it boasts good acidity, huge tannins, magnificent concentration, and a multilayered, textured mouthfeel. It is a big, but impeccably well-balanced Shiraz that should shed some of its structure and tannin over the next 4-5 years, and be at its best between 2010-2030+.د.إ1,735.85 -

Deep garnet with a touch of brick, the 2002 Grange is locked in a time capsule, like many of the 2002s, yielding a very youthful nose of red currants and red cherries, kirsch and violets with some lovely exotic spices in the background. Quite perfumed and pretty in terms of fruit expression in the mouth, the structure is rock solid, with a lively backbone cutting through the muscular fruit and great purity to the finish. If you're looking for that real "Grange" experience, best to keep cellaring it another 5-10+ years.د.إ1,825.00 -

Supple, ripe and generous with its blueberry, plum and mocha flavors, riding easily over finely wrought tannins and extending into the long, expressive finish.
